Saturday, April 21, 2012: 25 weeks

This Friday evening she woke up with some bleeding again, so we called ahead and they admitted her right away, bypassing the ER. The baby again proved to be perfectly healthy with the steadiest heartbeat for an almost 25 week old baby they'd seen in a long, long time. We'd made it to goal one!

After being at the hospital for a little while, Christine started having contractions, but everything remained closed up so baby wasn't in danger of coming out... that became our new goal number one for another 48 hours while a couple of steroid shots help the baby's lungs accelerate growing. She's been on a few medications to help slow / stop the contractions. While it’s possible for a 24-25 week old baby to survive, they typically have respiratory problems and maybe a bleeding near the brain and cerebral palsy. Letting the steroids do their thing for 48 hours greatly improve chances of being healthy. 48 hours will be 06:30 Monday morning... goal one.

Early Saturday morning, Christine took a helicopter ride from our hospital, OSF St. Joseph Bloomington, to OSF St. Francis Peoria where they have specialists and a neonatal ICU. We're here as a just-in-case.

Meanwhile…Last year this time I had surgery to drain an abscess in my bottom. Apparently a fistula formed at that time, because a year later (two weeks ago) I had surgery again for another abscess to be drained, and then last week I was in surgery again for them to try and heal the fistula. If it works, I'll have the same chances of having the problem again as anyone would (rare beyond rare). If it doesn't, there is a possibility I'll be back in for surgery again month after month until it’s corrected. I won't show you any pictures :)

Needless to say, it's been a rough month for us as Christine job hunts for the fall and we try to buy a house and get ready for a baby. The Lord works in mysterious ways. This is serving as a reminder to us that He's in charge. Please keep Christine and the baby in your prayers.
